Covid-19 vaccinations are taking place in locations across south west London, with NHS staff in hospitals, large vaccination centres and GP surgeries undertaking 95,583 jabs since 8 December.
GPs and their teams have launched 30 Covid-19 vaccination clinics at 25 different sites across the south west London as the NHS rolls out of the biggest vaccination programmes in its history.
The community sites join eight local hospitals running clinics, with 90-year old George Dyer from Croydon one of the first people in the country to receive a first dose at Croydon Hospital.
To ensure the eligible local population are offered a vaccination in a location convenient to them, more large vaccination centres will be opening in the coming weeks.
Dr Nicola Jones, lead GP for Wandsworth, said:
“Local GPs, their teams and hospital staff have done an amazing job working quickly to make sure clinics are ready to meet the challenge of offering Covid-19 vaccinations, with over 95,000 local people vaccinated. We are immensely grateful for the support of our local businesses and all the volunteers who have come forward to support NHS staff as we roll out this ambitious vaccination programme.
“Experts have recommended those most at risk from the disease be vaccinated first and there is a lot more work to do – in the coming weeks the NHS will continue to invite those eligible to attend their local GP run vaccination site or one of the large sites opening soon.”
The figures published by NHS England and NHS Improvement today represent the number of vaccines administered by our local clinicians, not the overall number of local residents vaccinated.
Vaccine sites have been set up across south west London and Surrey to ensure our local population are offered a vaccination in a location convenient to them. This means that people eligible for the jab are able to choose to attend Epsom racecourse or other mass vaccination sites rather than the local clinics.
Due to the complexity in the national reporting system, the 9,000 people vaccinated at Nonsuch Mansions in Sutton and Hampton Wick surgery in Richmond are not included in the figures published today.
