|The past week has seen one million COVID-19 vaccination invitations landing on doormats across the UK, letting 16 and 17-year-olds know that they can book a jab or come along to selected walk-in clinics.|
If you or your child is among them, and you’re wondering whether to take up the offer, here are five things you should know:
1. Young people are coming forward in their thousands
More than 360,000 of those aged 16 and 17 have already had their jab. Add to them the 3.3 million 18 to 24-year-olds who’ve had their first dose, and you can see that this youth movement is growing.
2. There’s nothing to be scared of
Not everyone is great with needles. Thankfully our vaccine centre staff have plenty of experience of putting people ease. Just let us know about any worries you have on arrival. Christiana Pena, matron at Centre Court vaccination centre in Wimbledon said: “We’ve got a pod for privacy, and we take the time to reassure you. People are really thankful for the extra time, for not being hurried.” Read more here.
3. We’ve got lots of local venues
There are plenty of places to get your jab in Merton – maybe combine it with a shopping trip at Centre Court, Wimbledon or visit our clinics in the Wilson Hospital or the Nelson Health Centre. We organise regular pop-ups around the borough too. Find all the details here. Under 18s can’t currently get their vaccines at pharmacy sites.
4. If you’re not sure – talk to us
Our friendly matrons and other vaccine staff are on hand to answer any questions you have, with absolutely no pressure to get the jab. Call in for a chat any time.
5. Our doors are always open
We’d love you to have your COVID-19 vaccine soon, so you are protected in time for going back to school or college next week, but if you need to think it over, that’s fine. We’ll continue to offer vaccinations to eligible groups well into the autumn, so it’s never too later – whether you’re 16 or 96.
